Privacy policy

Kara3 (“the site”) is a subtitle editor that runs in your browser, operated by Chiwa.net (“we”). This policy explains what data the site handles, where it is kept, and the choices you have.

Who we are

The site is operated by Chiwa.net, which is responsible for the personal data described in this policy (the controller). For questions or requests about your data, use the contact address at the end of this policy.

Your subtitles and videos

The subtitle files, project files and videos you open, edit and export are handled only in your browser. They are never uploaded to the site or to any server. The site has no accounts and never asks for your name or email address. The site itself sets no cookies; what it keeps in your browser is listed below.

Data kept in your browser

To make the editor work, the site keeps the following in your browser:

Settings: theme, interface size, layout, volume, export file extension and so on, in localStorage.
Autosaved work: unsaved edits (with their undo history); the names of the files you opened or saved, with references to them (file handles) so they can be opened again; the name of a local video or the ID of a YouTube video; and the list of recent files, in IndexedDB. Your browser may ask whether the site may keep this data permanently.
Files for offline use: the site's own files, so it works without an internet connection, in the service worker cache. While the site is open it checks now and then for a new version, which is an ordinary request to the hosting provider.

This data stays on your device and we cannot read it. You can clear it under Settings in the editor, or by clearing the site's data in your browser.

Google Analytics

The site uses Google Analytics to see how many people visit and which pages they view, so it can be improved. Google Analytics uses cookies and collects information such as your browser type, device, approximate region (estimated from your IP address) and the pages you view. The site never sends your subtitles, file names or videos to Google Analytics.

The site shows third-party ads from Google AdSense on its guide pages. Ad vendors, including Google, use cookies to show ads based on your visits to this and other sites. You can turn off personalized ads in Google's Ads Settings, or opt out of other vendors' cookies at www.aboutads.info.

The site also shows promotions for other services run by Chiwa.net, such as ChiwaBots, labeled as ads. They are plain links: they set no cookies and collect nothing, and the sites they lead to have their own privacy policies.

Where the law requires consent first, such as in the European Economic Area, the UK and Switzerland, the site asks whether you agree to cookies through a Google-certified consent management platform. Until you agree, Google Analytics and ads do not use cookies to identify you, though Google may still receive requests without cookies, such as your IP address and the page you view. You can change your choice at any time with “Privacy choices” at the bottom of the page, which appears where consent is required.

YouTube player

When you open a YouTube video in the editor, the site embeds the YouTube player through the YouTube API Services, in privacy-enhanced mode (youtube-nocookie.com). YouTube and Google may still collect data and use cookies, especially once a video plays, under the YouTube Terms of Service and the Google Privacy Policy. Your subtitles are not sent to YouTube.

Hosting

The site is hosted on Cloudflare Pages. As with any website, Cloudflare may log connection details such as IP addresses and access times for security and operations. See the Cloudflare Privacy Policy.

Purposes, legal bases and retention

Purposes: understanding how the site is used (Google Analytics), showing ads that pay for running it (AdSense), and keeping it secure and working (hosting logs).
Data: browser and device type, approximate region from the IP address, pages viewed, and the identifiers in Google's cookies.
Legal bases: in the European Economic Area, the UK and Switzerland, analytics and ads rely on your consent; hosting logs rely on our legitimate interest in running the site securely.
Retention and location: the data is kept by Google and Cloudflare under their own retention policies, and may be processed outside your country, including in the United States.

Your rights

You can ask us about the personal data concerning you, ask for a copy of it, or ask us to correct it, stop processing it or delete it. You can withdraw your consent at any time with “Privacy choices”. We do not hold data that identifies you ourselves, so most requests are carried out through Google's settings, and we will help you with them. If you are in the European Economic Area, the UK or Switzerland, you may also complain to your data protection authority.

Children

The site is not designed for children under 13, or under the minimum age set by the law of your country, and does not knowingly collect their personal data.

Changes to this policy

This policy may be updated. Changes are published on this page, with a new date at the top.
